Keeping Negative Emotions at Bay
Ever had one of those moments where everything flows beautifully — you’re in the zone, feeling great, life’s good — and then bang… it all falls apart?
That’s exactly what happened to me. I’d just recorded what I thought was a brilliant episode. Everything felt right. Then I checked the files… silence. Flat line. No audio. The mic hadn’t been switched on.
First came the anger. I shouted at myself, then at the mic (poor thing, it didn’t deserve it). Then frustration kicked in. And underneath that? A much nastier voice — “You’re stupid. You don’t deserve this. You’re not good enough.”
That’s the thing about negative emotions. On the surface, they look like anger or frustration, but when you dig deeper, they often reveal limiting beliefs about who we think we are. And those beliefs, if left unchecked, will shape how we see the world.
Here’s what I learned — and what you can take away from this:
-
Negative emotions are teachers. They’re pointing you toward the beliefs hiding underneath.
-
Peel the layers. Ask yourself: What’s beneath the anger? The frustration? What do I believe about myself in this moment?
-
Learn the lesson. For me, it wasn’t just “turn on the mic.” It was: slow down, pause, return to the basics, and set a clear intention.
-
Build strong foundations. Success isn’t about fancy techniques. It’s about doing the simple things well, consistently.
-
Reframe and visualise. Once I realised the lesson, I imagined myself doing it right next time. And I did.
The real magic is this: when you take the learning, the negative emotion disappears because it’s no longer needed. And suddenly, what looked like a failure becomes a powerful step forward.
Listen in, and I’ll walk you through the process so you can use it the next time life throws you one of those “flat line moments.”
